Purpose

As development specialist, your job is to manage the Wikimedia Foundation's donor database and oversee all development-related donor and prospect research and tracking.

Summary

This position will manage the Wikimedia Foundation's open-source donor database and oversee all development-related donor and prospect research and tracking. This is a critical role: 96% of the Foundation’s revenue is derived from donations.

Responsibilities
  • Drive the optimization of the Wikimedia Foundation's donor database, including increasing user-friendliness and automation of tasks;
  • Manage the database from a user (non-technical) perspective;
  • Craft and maintain an array of internal materials including prospect research files, etc.;
  • Help craft and maintain an array of support materials aimed at donors and potential donors;
  • Create tax receipts and automated thanks;
  • Support the optimization of the Wikimedia Foundation's online donation pages in order to increase donations;
  • Support the development of other donation streams, such as corporate matching programs, donations-by-Facebook, donations-by-SMS, etc.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; advanced degree preferred
  • 7+ years of fundraising experience, ideally with a large high-profile international organization
  • Experience managing databases from a user (non-technical) perspective
  • Good general understanding of donation streams including emerging trends
  • Excellent writing skills particularly including the ability to explain and summarize
  • Ability to evaluate, analyze and prioritize; self-motivated and independent
  • Good technical literacy from a user perspective: comfortable using various tools such as wikis, mailing lists and blogging software;
  • Experience with web-based research tools such as the Foundation Directory Online and Lexis-Nexis for Development Professionals;
  • Experience using CiviCRM open-source donor management software is a major plus;
  • The ability to speak multiple languages is a major plus;
  • Experience living or working outside the United States is a major plus.
