Wikipedia is every hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy, and as such, perfectly suited for mobile devices. But our mobile experience is still underwhelming. Your job is to work with the mobile team to conceptualize and implement features like editing, photo uploading, offline storage, and more--and to deliver a mobile experience that helps us bring free knowledge to billions of human beings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop product roadmap for mobile by working with Foundation staff, community members, researchers, and mobile partners.
  • Drive product development of mobile reading and contribution features with a team of designers, engineers, and community members.
  • Continually act as an advocate for a coherent, user-focused product vision for Wikimedia’s mobile software development.
  • Engage with external app community to identify research and partnership opportunities.
  • Advise on selection and improvement of mobile infrastructure

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years experience as a product manager or software engineer, including minimum of 2 years experience in the development (as product manager or engineer) of mobile technologies.
  • Experience with web standards like HTML5, CSS, and jQuery and their advantages and limitations on mobile devices.
  • Well-rounded knowledge of smart phones, feature phones, tablets and other mobile device capabilities.
  • Experience designing simple and intuitive user interfaces
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams
  • Experience in agile and open source development methodologies is a plus.
  • Experience participating in a major open source project a plus
  • Experience with online communities a plus
