Job Purpose

This position is responsible for preparing journal entries, account reconciliation, bank reconciliation as well as documenting and evaluating current procedures. The main areas of focus include general accounting, fixed assets, and account analysis. The staff accountant will also assist the controller with the maintenance of the accounting system (Intacct).


Job Summary / Responsibilities

  • Prepare month-end closing journal entries (e.g. expense accruals, revenue accruals, straight line rent adjustments, and etc.).
  • Responsible for fixed assets capitalization and depreciation.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Review monthly credit card activities and prepare journal entries.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the accounting system.
  • Assist with electronic documentation of accounts payable and expense report.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the general ledger.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end reporting.
  • Assist with the annual audit and preparation of financial statements under GAAP for Not-for- Profit organizations.
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of the annual Form 1099.
  • Assist with continuous improvement of processes.
  • Additional duties as required.


Required Qualifications

  • B.A. degree in accounting or finance from a four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of 3 years progressively accounting experience with knowledge of sub-ledger, GL debit & credit, financial reports, etc.
  • Knowledge of GAAP for Not-for-Profit organizations.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal and written.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing tasks and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to work as part of an integrated team as well as independently.
  • Ability to work in an open, transparent, and collaborative environment.
  • Strong attention to details.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Ability to work well with people with a very wide diversity of demographic and cultural characteristics.
