The Opportunity

You will be part of a team responsible for supporting and sustaining the global Wikimedia community via the Wikimedia Foundation’s Development Department. Your work will involve assisting the team that processes gifts from foundations and donors, providing support in numerous capacities. You will update and maintain the Foundation’s various donation pages and the benefactor page, our most visible and significant communications tools for donors. You will research prospective foundations and donors, respond to donor inquiries as needed, and edit and send thank you letters. You will work with a team of people like yourself, who care about supporting one of the more remarkable free-knowledge projects in the world. You will assist the Development team as needed, support the diverse, international community that builds Wikipedia and its projects, make the world a better place, and have fun while doing it!

Qualities We’re Looking For

You will likely be a current college student or a recent graduate, with excellent written communications skills and an enjoyment of collaboration. You may have contributed to an open source project or online community, perhaps even Wikipedia (a major plus), or you will be very interested in learning. Ideally, you will be comfortable working in a loosely structured, highly transparent collaborative environment, where decision by consensus is common. You likely have experience working with volunteers, maybe as a community member in Wikipedia-related projects, or similar online communities with diverse and international cultural dynamics. It will be helpful if you are comfortable with open source donor database software (e.g. CiviCRM, SugarCRM) and you have strong computer skills (e.g. collaborative web applications, open-source software). We hope you have experience traveling or living in another cultural environment; fluency in another language other than English is a huge plus. We would like you to be able to commute to the Wikimedia offices in downtown San Francisco several days a week.

This is a volunteer opportunity located in our San Francisco offices. In order to apply, please send a resume and cover letter to jobs@wikimedia.org, for the attention of Renee Bracey Sherman
