- 25 April 2013 A year after its announcement as the first new Wikimedia project since 2006, Wikidata has now begun to serve the over 280 language versions of Wikipedia as a common source of structured data that can be used in more than 25 million articles of the free encyclopedia.

- Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director Sue Gardner named to the Board of Directors at Global Voices
- 16 January 2013 Global Voices is a community of more than 1300 authors and translators in dozens of countries around the world that publishes reports from global citizen journalists, with an emphasis on voices that aren't ordinarily heard in major international media.
- Wikimedia Foundation launches Wikivoyage, a free, worldwide travel guide that anyone can edit
- 15 January 2013 Wikivoyage becomes the 12th official Wikimedia project and debuts on Wikipedia's 12th birthday. Wikivoyage already has approximately 50,000 articles available in nine languages: Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish.
