- Purpose
As head of community giving, your job is to execute the Wikimedia Foundation's community gifts strategy in the context of its overall mission, vision, values and goals. This position reports to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer.
- Summary
This position will execute the community giving strategy for the Wikimedia Foundation in the context of its overall mission, vision, values and goals. This is a critical role: 96% of the Foundation's revenue is derived from individual donations.
- Responsibilities
- Optimize and maintain the Wikimedia Foundation's single largest revenue source, its online donation pages;
- Develop and implement strategy to solicit recurring donations;
- Develop other donation streams, such as corporate matching programs, blog campaigns, social networking campaigns;
- Develop and maintain communications with donors and prospective donors, including on-site messaging, newsletters, blog entries, etc.
- Achieve annual financial targets, as established during the financial planning process.
- Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; advanced degree preferred
- The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of work experience, including some fundraising experience; however we will also consider applications from people with backgrounds that include usability and user interface/interaction design, and/or website project management
- Good general understanding of donation streams including emerging trends
- Mission-driven non-profit or open source / free culture experience
- Excellent writing skills including the ability to explain, summarize, persuade and motivate
- Experience with A/B testing, website usability testing and/or market research
- Ability to evaluate, analyze and prioritize; self-motivated and independent
- Good technical literacy from a user perspective: able to search a database and use various tools such as wikis, groups and blogging software, good general understanding of how websites are designed and constructed
- The ability to speak multiple languages is a major plus;
- Experience living or working outside the United States is a major plus.

The Wikimedia Foundation was created in 2003 to manage the operation of Wikipedia and its sister projects and is based in San Francisco, California. It currently employs 33 staff members. Wikimedia is supported by local chapter organizations in 27 countries or regions.
