Head of Office IT Support
- Job Purpose
The Head of Office IT Support will be responsible for technical support and office technical infrastructure at both our primary location and at a secondary satellite office space close by. The Head of Office IT Support works closely with the Wikimedia Foundation's Office Manager.
This position is based in our San Francisco office.
This is a mid-level position.

- Responsibilities
Working directly with end users:
- Deployment, updating and troubleshooting of Mac and PC hardware running either primarily MacOS or Ubuntu Linux, along with standard office software including OpenOffice, Quickbooks, Thunderbird
- Coordinating backups, security patching, and password changes with users
- Evangelism on behalf of open source software and active support of users transitioning to open source from proprietary software
- Writing end-user documentation for office procedures
Office infrastructure management:
- Development and maintenance of office infrastructure such as backups, VPN, office email service
- Support of local network in main and satellite office
- Support of office VoIP phone system based on Asterisk
- Support of other office hardware such as printers, fax, projectors, mobile phones
Office purchases:
- Development and management of office IT budget including provision and maintenance of hardware, Internet connectivity, phones, and services such as user training and support
- Equipment and software purchases, inventories and audits
- Development and management of relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and other providers
- Required Qualifications
- At least 3+ years in an IT support responsibility in a mid-sized office environment
- Familiarity with Mac OS and Linux distributions as well as previously-mentioned applications
- Responsive client service orientation: able to anticipate, understand and meet the needs of a focused team of professionals
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills; ability to clearly communicate with non-technical users
- Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities including balancing urgent needs with long-term planning work
- Be comfortable in a highly collaborative, consensus-oriented environment
- Be creative, highly motivated, and able to operate effectively in multiple cultural contexts
- Ability to proactively secure and ameliorate office IT systems
- Additional Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with Asterisk phone system is a plus
- Some familiarity with the LAMP stack a plus
- Experience with Perl or other scripting language a plus
- Experience with wikis and participatory production environments is a plus
- Understanding of the free culture movement is a plus
