JOB PURPOSE
Help design, create and maintain a highly resilient and scalable network and systems infrastructure to support one of the global top 5 web properties.
JOB SUMMARY
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Design, install and administer the global networking infrastructure, including network security
- Perform routing policy design and implementation
- Investigate and troubleshoot unexpected network and/or systems issues.
- Develop or use open source Network Management (and Monitoring) Software/Tools that increase the visibility and understanding of the behavior of (sub)components in the system, such as profiling tools, graph systems, alerts, etc.
- Establish capacity planning framework. Monitor and trend key metrics to identify potential performance problems that comes with the global growth of our on-line readership and new contents.
- Explore and seek out new concepts, tools and technologies to keep network and systems technology stack current, updated and optimized.
- General infrastructure operations and system administration, including server installations and configuration management
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Solid experience and knowledge in Networking including L2 and L3 technologies (e.g., MPLS, OSPF routing, BGP, RIP)
- Strong troubleshooting skills and effective troubleshooting methods (e.g., load balancing issues, routing troubles, firewall problems, identify source of application issues masquerading as network troubles).
- 5+ years of working knowledge with Switches, Routers, Firewalls and Load-Balancer infrastructure
- 2+ of experience with LAMP-stack administration
- Knowledge of the systems internals of LAMP stacks and other utilities and tools often used for operations diagnostics
- 2+ years of experience with systems programming and development in languages such as C, Python and PHP
- Strong experience with network/systems diagnostic tools, and networking monitoring software
- Inquisitive and yearn to learn new concepts and technologies and apply them to the job
- Comfortable working in a highly collaborative, consensus-oriented environment
- At ease working remotely as part of a globally distributed team
- Understanding of the free culture movement is a plus
- Experience living or working outside of your home country is a major plus
- The ideal candidate will be creative, highly motivated, and able to operate effectively in multiple cultural contexts
- You are a proficient English speaker
