New donate form

Hi! How to switch between different languages versions of new donate form ? Now, I do not see such a possibility... For example, if I hit the link to the English page ("Donate" links from Meta or Commons suggest to English version), I do not see if there are Russian version...--Kaganer 20:47, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

I don't think there is yet, but there may be one in the future (the system can still be changed). For the existing translations, we will just link to them directly (like we do it the sitenotices: fr:, en:, it:...). Would you mind updating ru to the new form? (If you need help, I'm on IRC at #wikimedia-translation or you could ask here or by one of the other ways as described on my userpage. :-)). Cbrown1023 talk 20:52, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
I will certainly make the Russian version. But I believe that Template:FundLang (or similar) should be included in the new version donate form. --Kaganer 12:51, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. I also think that FundLang should be incorporated into this donation system, but I'm not sure yet how we are going to do it. Cbrown1023 talk 15:06, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Finally finished :D 555 02:52, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! I've published it at Donate/pt. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 22:02, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Where on meta

Can I find the translations for the donate/xx pages? Thanx notafish]] [[User Talk:Notafish|}<';> 17:25, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

m:Donate, for example the French version is m:Donate/fr (but the French version was translated before we started a formal request on Meta-Wiki, so it just links back to the version here). Cbrown1023 talk 20:54, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Page Rename

Hi, it sounds a bit funny, but I wanted to rename Donate/ml to ധനസമാഹരണം. Could you please help me figure out how to move pages (rename)..? :) --Jacob.jose 09:36, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Just create the translated page with the text {{:Donate/ml}}. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 16:47, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks.. :) --Jacob.jose 17:17, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Two reuqests

Hello. First, please apply the changes requested here. Then, please have a look at the final draft of Persian main page and give me comments about it. Cheers, Huji 16:37, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Re: Home...
  • Template:OurProjects-multi should be replaced with a Farsi localisation, visit Template:OurProjects-fr for an example.
  • "Latest news" (the header for the news column) isn't translated yet.
  • You might want to switch the order of the columns for better rtl-support, see the Arabic one.
  • We might need to add <span class="plainlinks"> (the arrows run into the text), unless that's what you want to be changed in .css. ;-)
Re: Common.css, I'll have Cary take a look.
Otherwise, looks great! Thank you for your translations Huji and I hope you enjoyed or are enjoying the Netherlands! :D Cbrown1023 talk 17:01, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm back, indeed. I enjoyed my stay, of course. Thanks for the comments, I'll deal with them later. Huji 19:53, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Oh, about the order of the columns: As soon as MediaWiki:Common.css is updated, it'll be done automatically. Huji 14:32, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

RE: MediaWiki edits

I've made the edits with a few tweaks of my own to the language; let me know if you don't like what I've done. What happened to the exporting pages feature? Maybe we should add some request page on meta for getting at the wikitext by asking someone with an account? It seems like something people should be able to do. Also, for your emoticons, you might like to use <tt> instead of <code> because then you don't get the alternative background colour in some situations. HTH HAND. —Sean Whitton / 13:05, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

The exporting pages feature still works, but it's no longer necessary. You can just hit "view source" and see the text (this didn't use to be the case a long while ago). Oh, and thanks. :P Cbrown1023 talk 14:34, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

ارتباط با ما

Despite fixes by Mardetanha, ارتباط با ما is again far from standard according to its translation. I will update it here and on Meta accordingly if I forgot. Best, Huji 16:57, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

I had thought you copyedited it when you edited it on Meta-Wiki the other day, I guess you hadn't! Thanks for the fixes. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 20:16, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip

It is late here in England. I will think of some extra text in the morning! Thanks --AndrewCates 20:27, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Hehe, thanks for expanding it! :D (I figured you'd know more than I could get from a Wikipedia article and do a better job at explaining it.) Cbrown1023 talk 22:59, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

ml translation

Hi Casey,

Thanks for updating ml translation. Could you please advise how could I possibly change http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/70/Wikipedia-logo-ml.png? The project name should be വിക്കിപീഡിയ and not വിക്കിപീടിയ. --Jacob.jose 20:39, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Also, if you could change the bottom caption in the image to: സ്വതന്ത്ര സര്‍‌വ്വവിജ്ഞാനകോശം, that would be great ! --Jacob.jose 20:41, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
You have to edit the image, see commons:Image:Wikipedia-logo-ml.png. I suggest uploading over that file name with your current Wikipedia logo. Cbrown1023 talk 20:58, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, Done ! --Jacob.jose 21:18, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Donate/Now stuff

For lack of other obvious places I posted a couple of questions at Template talk:2008/Donate-now. Regards, Finn Rindahl 19:53, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

err, you should keep those $1 values, {{2008/Donate-now}} uses it for replacing <html>'.replace('$1', minimums[currency] + ' ' + currency ) ); Finn Rindahl 23:00, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
why is that you seem to always bring out the stupidity in me? :P Anyway, I asked Alex to fix it and he replied. Cbrown1023 talk 23:19, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
It's a deliberate action on my part - seeking to discredit you so that you will not gain support for your evil plan of taking the no out of nowiki :P Finn Rindahl 23:27, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
hehehe :D Cbrown1023 talk 23:29, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm working on 'Questions'/nb - do we have anything like {{EN-WP-COUNT}} for nb? Finn Rindahl 14:48, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

No, we just mention the largest Wikipedia's number of articles (English Wikipedia) in the FAQ. Cbrown1023 talk 14:59, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Yep, we also mention the total number {{ALL-WP-COUNT}}, I just thought something like "All Wikipedia languages combined contain more than 11,500,000 articles, of which XX is in Norwegian bokmål would make sense in the nb translation. No big deal. Finn Rindahl 15:08, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Oh, btw, thanks for working on all these translations, I really appreciate it! :D If you wouldn't mind making missing/nn too, I would be appreciative. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 15:00, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Will do :) (#11 and #12 already published though...) Finn Rindahl 15:08, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Re: A few comments

Hey Cbrown1023, thanks for your comments. Just a small explanation: the translation of Nasze projekty comes from Meta, I have just updated it a bit, but afterwards recognised some errors which needed to be fixed ASAP, and so I did. And yes, I have figured the translation scheme at last (but a bit too late :-)). Have a nice day :) Best, Tomasz W. Kozłowski 10:32, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Done. And yes, I will try to include the translator's attribution in my edit summaries in the future. Sorry for not doing it already... :) Tomasz W. Kozłowski 11:18, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Hehe, no problem. Thanks. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 21:16, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Wikimedia Blog

Hi Casey,

You didn't get my msn message today, I guess the reason was my notebook chrashed like 4 minutes later :'(

But back to my point, I updated Template:Blogbox and after your edit I understand that I always need to remove one post when I add one?

Best regards, Abigor 18:54, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Yup, we usually like to keep the same amount of posts (5) on the page.. which is why we always remove one when we add another. :-)--Az1568 22:46, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, because the blog box isn't supposed to replace the blog itself... it's just supposed to entice people enough to click. ;) Cbrown1023 talk 23:56, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Quotes on the Jimmy Appeal page

Hi! I notice you've changed the quotes on the Jimmy Appeal page from Q tags to literal quote marks in the parameter so it will work on different languages. My understanding was that Q tags rendered quotes using the appropriate punctuation for the language the page is in - as long as the page's language is correctly defined (in the BODY tag or wherever it goes), everything should be fine. Is that incorrect? There is another problem with the quote marks, though - Rand wanted the text to line up down the left hand side, which I could only do by hard-coding a negative indent on the first line (using the CSS text-indent property), which means it only works if the quote marks are the size they were when I worked out the number of pixels. Do you know a better way to do it? Punctuation in other languages will almost certainly be different widths. --Tango 18:11, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

I have no idea if it works by defining it in the body tag, maybe you could test it? I don't think it matters too much to line anything up, Trevor worked on it and they all seem to be happy with where it is now -- and right not it looks like it'll work with the other languages. (Sorry for the short reply, a lot to do in a little bit of time.) Cbrown1023 talk 01:12, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Rand seemed pretty insistent that it line up - take it up with him! --Tango 15:39, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Re: "only 6 months of delay"

Yes, I've already said the same thing to the user. :-) --Nemo bis 19:51, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Thank you. I love reading old stuff and there are pages which are uncategorized since 2003 or even earlier. :-/ --Nemo bis 21:04, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Redirect issue

Regarding this, there was a non-breaking space between "#REDIRECT" and "[[". --MZMcBride 00:18, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

I figured it was something nutty like that. Thanks. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 00:46, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

Re: Your message at my talkpage

Thanks for the info, Cbrown1023. I have fixed a few problems, although I'm not sure how to dual localise the currency on the Portuguese Donate/Now page. I found it set to USD and moved it to Euro with the correct sign, but it also needs the possibility of switching it to Brazil for the BRL.

I've also fixed issues with some misplaced tags on the Kazakh Donate-header, which were breaking the transcluded 2008/Donate-header in the page and leaving tags visible. I've localised the logo on the fiu-vro header to English, before someone actually told me to leave it till the logos were made.

Other than that, most of the other bits I was gonna sort are actually obsolete till the new logos are prepped by Cary. I welcome the offer of help, and anything you can do to assist is very much appreciated! BarkingFish 02:29, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Ok, that's fine with me. I wasn't sure why it had US Dollars listed for Portugal :) I had started changing one or two, was having trouble with the zh-Yue one till you stepped in, too. I hope I can be a help here, I don't want to have to keep bugging people to fix stuff that I can't, it's why I came in the first place - so I could fix things without leaving work for others who are already busy! BarkingFish 02:37, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Terms of Use/ru additional links

Hi! For a better understanding of the site terms for Russian-speaking readers, there was a proposal to add additional links to unofficial translations of Russian text of the license (CC and GFDL) in Russian Wikipedia. This is acceptable? --Kaganer 09:07, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

I think that should be fine. Cbrown1023 talk 20:04, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks

That was fast :) --Dtaraborelli 21:43, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Template:Chapters addresses/ee

Hi. How important are the blank lines in these templates (i.e., the lines that start with ":" followed by nothing)? They currently seem to not output any space. I switched them to use a fake template, kind of, but I'm wondering if the blank lines should be deleted or switched to comments about what would go there (while adding a space to make the columns line up better at Template:Chapters addresses). Thoughts? --MZMcBride 01:44, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

P.S. Another way to solve the problem in some of these cases would be to add the missing info. For example, /ee seems to have a public e-mail address (wm-ee/wikimedia.org). I don't want to add it without you looking it over first, though. --MZMcBride 01:53, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Hey MZM. The lines are just there because the information that would be in that space is missing. It doesn't really matter too much to me how the spacing is formatted, so feel free to have fun with that. About adding the addresses, if you're sure that they listed that as their official address somewhere else, then it should be fine to add. (I usually only update it when they request it.) Cbrown1023 talk 16:31, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the account creation and information, Casey! Best, --Everton137 20:42, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletions

Hi. I'm working on cleaning up this wiki a bit. I've proposed the following pages for deletion. I'm notifying you as you're listed in the page history. Without objection, the pages listed below will be deleted in about a month. Thanks for all of your work here. --MZMcBride (talk) 21:19, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

In general, none of the donation pages that you see on donate.wikimedia.org pull from this site. In the majority of cases, they are all being pulled from donatewiki or elsewhere, so it won't really matter if the page here is deleted or not. There was always a plan to keep the pages for a while and then delete them, we just didn't get around to the deletion part which I'm glad someone finally noticed! The fundraiser team can be a bit tricky to contact, but I'd suppose that at least some are on IRC and others should just be emailed directly. --Az1568 (talk) 22:49, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Thank you

For all of your amazing work here. Sj (talk) 15:18, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

PS. - I agree with you about historical pages; we could use an 'archive this page' tool that protects it and helps it show up (or not) properly in various specialpages.

Thanks, Sam! :-) Cbrown1023 talk 16:01, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
