Sheetal Puri

Sheetal Puri is the Interim Chief Advancement Officer of the Wikimedia Foundation, the global nonprofit that operates Wikipedia, and President of the Wikimedia Endowment. She leads the Foundation’s Advancement Department, which is tasked with growing and supporting the global Wikimedia community and developing and implementing the revenue and partnership strategies that sustain the Wikimedia projects.

Sheetal joined the Wikimedia Foundation in 2022 to lead its global digital fundraising program. During her tenure, the Foundation’s grassroots fundraising program grew in scale and sophistication, strengthening recurring giving and broadening donor engagement. In FY2024–25, the program raised $184.5 million from more than 18 million donations, an 8 percent increase over the previous year, while surpassing one million monthly donors.

Across her career, Sheetal has focused on how mission-driven organizations can mobilize resources at scale while remaining accountable to the people and communities they serve. Her leadership is grounded in equity, community agency, reciprocity, and stewardship.

Before joining the Wikimedia Foundation, Sheetal spent more than five years with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), leading individual giving and advancing more community-centered approaches to humanitarian fundraising. She previously led digital marketing and communications at the University of Toronto and worked as a nonprofit fundraising consultant. Sheetal holds a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of Oxford and an MBA from the University of Toronto.
