Job Description:
Rob Halsell has been our part-time data center technician since December 2006, maintaining servers in our Tampa facility on the recommendation of our previous tech, Kyle Anderson. Since January he has additionally been working on securing and improving the office network in St. Petersburg. With 200+ servers to maintain in Tampa and a growing office staff with the attendant IT needs, we needed him available additional hours. Rob will now be working full-time for the Foundation, under the direction of Brion.


* Assists in the planning & implementation of modifications to technical infrastructure.
Primary responsibility:
* Assists in implementing & maintaining network security for both office intranet and server farm.
* Data center technician at Tampa facility.
* Designed, and prepared for deployment Asterisk VOIP telephone system.
* Maintaining servers and network.
* Maintain corporate computers, and technical hardware, including networks.
* Receiving and setting up hardware.
* Builds and maintains vendor relationships and manages the purchase of hardware and software products.
* Diagnosing and returning failed hardware, working with vendors as necessary on RMAs and fixes.
* Helpdesk support for corporate users and contractors.
* Assist in maintaining corporate e-mail server.
* Maintain corporate security of files and technical hardware.
* Maintain inventory of technical hardware and warranties.
* Test servers in our collocation facility, processing broken hardware and software for return to vendor under warranty or replacement.
* Assist in maintaining networking infrastructure in the collocation facility.
* Receive and implement all new hardware both in the office, and within our collocation facility.
* Deploy and maintain corporate file server and backup solution.


Secondary responsibility:
* office IT technician in St. Petersburg office.
* Maintaining desktop and server computers and wired and wireless networks.
* Technical support for software and hardware issues in the office.
* Setting up and maintaining backup system for in-office desktop computers and file servers.
