Background Information and Statement of Purpose

The Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) is looking for an individual consultant or vendor to support growing its engineering team, with focus on attracting strong candidates for open positions by employing non-traditional strategies such as coding challenges, diligently researching and reaching out to individual candidates, organizing presence at relevant meetups, raising awareness of opportunities via relevant listservs, etc. Combined skillset in engineering and community management/outreach is ideal.

Scope of Work

  • Review various online materials and interview WMF stakeholders to gain deep understanding of all open positions and hiring priorities;
  • Lead the design and organization of new models for engineering outreach, including:
    • Online coding and product challenges that are announced via Wikipedia and other WMF sites to attract potential candidates;
    • Organize SF Bay Area events to surface local candidates;
    • Organize Wikimedia presence (including volunteers) at relevant conferences/meetups and ensure visibility of key opportunities
  • Help refine all communications materials related to WMF engineering positions

Term of Contract

The contract will commence on August 1, 2011 at the latest, for an initial duration of 3 months. The contract will end on October 31, 2011 unless it is extended. All software developed through this contract will be publicly available as GPLv2-licensed open source software.

Payments, Incentives, and Penalties

Rate will be determined by level of experience and expertise. Please submit bid proposal.

Requirements for Proposal Preparation

Contractor or vendor should provide a letter with resume/background information that indicates their qualifications to fulfill the requirements of the RFP.
