Hello, my name is Andrew Sherman.

I worked at the Wikimedia Foundation from February 2015 to May 2016. I was the Digital Communications Intern on the Foundation’s Communications team and helped co-lead the Wikimedia Foundation’s blog. I managed and created content and media assets as well as captioned and helped to produce videos with our videographer.
I am a Digital Communications Intern with a passion for the user experience and content management. My background in Web Design and CSS helps me to work dynamically with the front end of campaigning/marketing. I pride myself on hard work and I am passionate about my major. Being part of the San Francisco Digital Innovation Center (SFDI) through Miami University in Oxford, OH has lead me to be a member of the Communications team here at Wikimedia Foundation.

My primary responsibility was the Wikimedia Highlights. I created the blog post each month and facilitated translations from the fantastic Wikimedia translation community. With the community’s help, the Highlights were translated into nearly 25 different languages and reached thousands of readers worldwide.
I am passionate about my academics which helps tremendously. My work and play are similar because they both occur on the same machine. That is why I was so happy to be accepted into the highly competitive AIMS San Francisco Digital Innovation Center (SFDI) program hosted by Miami University. I was selected out of a pool of twenty other students for this unique opportunity to experience my passion. I am fortunate to know so much about myself and I want to know more about the world and my desired career. I learn something new everyday through the internet and tend to back source and do my own searches to grasp a curious concept. The world is full of connections and I have found a way to experience them.

The community’s support also played a role in the videos created by the Communications team. I captioned many of our videos allowing for translation and engagement from community members around the movement. I am very appreciative of the community’s support, engagement and wonderful work on all these projects.
==About==

My internship was amazing. I am very grateful and thankful to all the community members and Foundation staff that I had the pleasure of working with over the past year. I have learned so much and gained so much knowledge from this opportunity. I hope to stay engaged with the Foundation as a volunteer member of the Wikimedia community as my time permits.
Being in a new city I have a lot to experience and so far it has been a blast. I am living by Alamo Square which I hear is a prime location. There are at least three parks within less than five blocks from my house and endless choices for food. During my free time I really like to be outside and tend to grab some lunch to go and sit on a hill with a nice view.

As I said my work is my passion so when I'm not out and about you can usually find me at my computer. I'll either be catching up on the YouTube channels I subscribe to or sifting through some RSS. Movies are my life and if I am able to I try and multitasking while watching something new or old. I really enjoy older and classic content and movies because they provide a context for the current culture and ideas to inspire nostalgia.
