About me

I am a PhD candidate in Human Centered Design & Engineering at the University of Washington where I perform research in the fields of HCI, CSCW, UCD and other fun acronyms. My dissertation research involves studying WikiProjects as complex systems and developing tools to support WikiProject-based collaboration. discussions around controversial article topics and on Wikipedia policy. I have also worked on several other open-source communication & collaboration tools, like this one and this one.

My first edit to Wikipedia was in 2006. I've been performing gnomish edits since 2008 as Jtmorgan.

My work

I am a Research Strategist with the Global Development department. I currently do design, development and user research work on the WP:Teahouse, a new user help and socialization space on the English Wikipedia, and provide infrastructure and data analytics support for other Global Development initiatives. I also advise and support current Community Fellowship projects around improving dispute resolution and user help documents.

I started at the Foundation during the 2011 Summer of Research. During my summer fellowship I worked on research sprints focused on new editor participation patterns(1,2), and WikiProjects.
