Karen Brown
About me
Hi, I’m Karen Brown, but you may have already met me in my volunteer capacity as Fluffernutter. I’ve been an active Wikimedia editor, mostly on the English Wikipedia, since 2008. I hold a variety of volunteer roles: I am an administrator and oversighter on the English Wikipedia, and I am a channel operator for a number of Wikimedia-related IRC channels. My editing interests include copyediting and medico-legal topics (particularly notable murders and murderers).
Outside of Wikipedia, I have a degree in Linguistics, and I speak (slow) conversational Spanish and a few words of Italian and Czech. I dabble in learning to program in Python, but I struggle to get much farther than "hello world". In my spare time, I have volunteered as an EMT, sung in an an all-female a cappella group, and rescued a very, very lazy ex-racing greyhound.
My work
I am a Community Advocate with the Wikimedia Foundation. I began this job in September of 2015 and am still in the process of learning the trade. My goal in this position is to empower our volunteer and professional communities to work better and more easily, especially where cooperation can be of use in that.
