About me
My background is in technology and development and I have been working in the nonprofit sector for about five years, though I am educated as a classical musician and music theorist. I speak fluent Albanian, am a native English speaker, and can get by in a number of other European languages with limited fluency. I've lived in California (United States), Illinois (United States), Albania, and Iceland and coordinated volunteer projects in all of those locations. I work here at the foundation because I love wikis (and anything with categories) and because I love working with volunteers. At WMF, I get to do these two things every single day!
You can see from the photo below that I'm female, though I'm also known as Mr. Winifred or Mr. Wikifred to some since I mostly communicate by Email and onwiki and have only recently posted my photo up here on Meta to clarify this point. Even though I've been editing wikis for some time, I still forget to log in sometimes, but User:Ijon is coaching me.
My work
I'm Winifred Olliff, Program Assistant to Global Development at Wikimedia Foundation. This means I support our Chief Global Development Officer Barry Newstead and focus on the following GD areas, in addition to supporting other areas as needed:
- WMF Grants Program administration and development
- WMF Participation Grants program
- Chapter Relations and Chapter Development
- Wikipedian student organizations
- Merchandise management and other forms of volunteer support
I also do things like take notes at staff meetings, prepare global development's monthly report, and maintain our pages on various wikis. Therefore, I am a good person to ask if you think you need to talk to somebody in Global Development but you're not entirely sure who is working on what. Be sure to check out our page on Meta first, however, because there is a lot of helpful information up there now (I hope): Global Development.
