Privacy Policy updates
Hi! These changes are initiated by some Board resolution? Please link to them, so that I can port them to Meta to update translations to other languages. Thanks!--Kaganer (talk) 20:43, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hi,@Kaganer. This minor update is initiated by the Legal department. See Resolution:Delegation of policy-making authority.
- I've got professional translations ready to import to Meta-Wiki, but I need to find a Meta-Wiki admin, because m:Privacy policy is full-protected. Ideally, we'll be able to start importing translations (the list of languages is on the talk page) before the official announcement is made (probably in half an hour). Once I get those imported, I would very much appreciate it if you could tell me what you think of the translation's quality. Ssnyder (talk) 20:59, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks. Would be better to link to these resolutions in the edit summary. I'm itself Meta-Wiki admin, and also the Translation Administrator. But I have had a very negative experience of implementing "professional translation" of "Terms of Use" into Russian in the past. I had to correct almost every paragraph, as external translators do not understand the realities of Wikimedia projects, do not have a detailed glossary, and use the wrong stylistic and terminology. - In the past, I've seen problems with the word free being translated with the "free as in beer" language, rather than the relevant "free as in freedom". I expect a certain amount of updating or clarifying. I also worry about the (hopefully small) risk of getting a translation by someone who doesn't know the language well enough. If what you see ever looks more like machine translation than a real translation, please let me know. Ssnyder (talk) 18:36, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
