Wikimania Scholarship Program Description

The 2009 Wikimania scholarships will enable active and qualified Wikimedians to travel to and attend the Wikimania conference in Gdansk, Poland, from July 8-11, 2010

Goals of position
  • Assistance in scholarship processing and helping the Scholarship committee in technical aspects of scholarship data
  • Assurance of due consideration and speedy response time to Wikimania scholarship applications.
Sample activities
  1. Coordinating necessary site requirements with staff developers
  2. Design and testing of Scholarship application form, improving on the previous year's example
  3. Manipulating application data, creating reports based on selected criteria
  4. Assisting the committee in other duties, such as selection of candidates
  5. Collaboration in creating Wikimania scholarship criteria
  6. Participating in periodic online meetings with scholarship manager (presently, Sara Crouse)
  7. Determining suitability of candidates based on established criteria.

February 8 - April 15, 2009

At volunteer's discretion, however, volunteer should be available for regular scheduled meetings, to be organized with team members in mind.

Qualifications sought
  1. Volunteer has either
    • Prior attendance at Wikimania.
    • Strong knowledge of cross-project Wikimedia community (involved in several local projects, and Commons, Meta, Incubator).
  2. Technical abilities--coding for the web, data manipulation (LAMP)
  3. Discretion and ability to handle confidential applicant information.
