Can somebody check the Russian Wikipedia guidance on New Year logos to be compatible with the Wikimedia Foundation Trademark Policy: :ru:Википедия:Новогодние_логотипы_русской_Википедии? It doesn't mention Wikimedia Foundation Trademark Policy and has requirements only about copyrights. You can see many images that have been chosen to be a New Year Wikipedia logo in the past, but some of them even doesn't incorporate Wikipedia logo and cannot be used as Wikipedia logotypes. == Is "make your own branded stuff" applicable by proxy? ==

If I want to "make my own branded stuff" but use a service that will print the design on my behalf, is that permissible? Specifically, I'm eyeing an option to get a custom design printed on a smartphone case. From my perspective, I'm the one "making my own branded stuff"—I'd be uploading a custom image compatible with the Visual Identity Guidelines and the provider would merely be printing it on the single case they sold me—that seems compatible with "make your own branded stuff". On the other hand, it'd be pretty reasonable to frame the same situation as the provider selling a branded product, which is clearly not permissible without a license. The provider I'm considering does not ask for any explicit license on the uploaded content, but merely requires customers to only use content that they own or have the legal permission to use, and to indemnify the provider against any costs associated with legal action regarding the use of the uploaded design.

Hi, it looks like the section Policy:Trademark_policy#6.1_Reporting_misuse incorrectly includes a link to a mockup of a reporting form, claiming that it is a venue to report misuse of the trademarks. Tollens (talk) 09:27, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
It's really not critical—I don't have a particular design in mind yet, and probably know enough about IP law that I could create non-infringing designs that were evocative of Wikipedia/Wikimedia without using any of the Marks proper (e.g. a jigsaw-puzzle line pattern background with no "W" glyphs or similar). That said, this seems like a useful edge case to ask about. Nihiltres (talk) 20:54, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

:It is! For example, I made 2 custom wristwatches (see within c:Custom clocks and watches) via the "Zazzle" store. I think they had the same 'requirement', and I was pleasantly surprised that they even asked me for proof that I had permission to use the logos, and I replied by sending them the link to this policy page. Hope that helps. Quiddity (talk) 02:18, 26 September 2023 (UTC)

Misrepresentation

Section 5.3 of the guidelines currently reads "When you use a Wikimedia mark under this policy, please use it to represent only the project for which it stands". As a part of an ongoing discussion in the Russian Wikipedia a proposal has been floated to use the inverse Wikipedia logo (routinely used by test.wikipedia.org) for several days to highlight a new ominous turn in the persecution of Wikipedia editors by the Russian government. Please clarify whether test.wikipedia.org and ru.wikipedia.org are considered same project or different ones under the current policy. Deinocheirus (talk) 20:02, 21 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect link in "Reporting misuse" section

Hi, it looks like the section Policy:Trademark policy § 6.1 Reporting misuse incorrectly includes a link to a mockup of a reporting form, claiming that it is a venue to report misuse of the trademarks. Tollens (talk) 09:27, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
