About me
I come to the Wikimedia movement with experience in philanthropy. I've worked in philanthropy both in Northern and Southern California. Most recently I worked for the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society with the mission to develop and share knowledge to improve philanthropy, strengthen civil society and effect social change.
I was born and raised in Ethiopia and ever since my first plane ride I have been obsessed with traveling. Of course now that I live in the US I spend a lot of time traveling back to Ethiopia. In addition, I have been to Europe, Latin America and a couple of countries in East Africa other than Ethiopia. When I'm not out and about I occupy my time hanging out with friends, cooking, knitting and attempting to write poetry.
My work
I am the program officer for rapid grants at the Wikimedia Foundation. The [Rapid Grants] program funds Wikimedia community members - individuals, groups, or organizations contributing to Wikimedia projects or commons - to organize projects throughout the year up to US $2000. As the new program officer for rapid grants I look forward to getting to know the various communities that contribute to the Wikimedia movement.
