JOB TITLE

Software Developer

JOB PURPOSE

The core purpose if this job is the further development, testing, and deployment of MediaWiki and associated software driving Wikimedia's web-sites, including Wikipedia.

JOB SUMMARY

  • Development, testing, and deployment of new features and improvements to the MediaWiki core and extensions for use by Wikimedia's web sites
  • Assisting end users and other developers in identifying and resolving issues with the software and configuration of Wikimedia's web-sites
  • Configuration, customization, and development of other web-based and server-side software used internally and externally by Wikimedia to support operations
  • Other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years experience with PHP/MySQL application development
  • Experience with MediaWiki a big plus
  • Linux/Unix shell, Python, Java, etc experience welcome
  • Any other free/open software development experience highly welcome
  • You must be comfortable in a highly collaborative, consensus-oriented environment.
  • Experience with wikis and participatory production environments is a plus.
  • Understanding of the free culture movement is a plus.
  • The ideal candidate will be creative, highly motivated, and able to operate effectively in multiple cultural contexts.
