About me

I joined Wikimedia as a lawyer in November 2014. Before arriving, I spent a year working for the United States Senate doing government investigations, where I worked on matters ranging from structured finance to Swiss data privacy to the ins and outs of high frequency algorithmic trading.

Before I started working, I attended Harvard Law School where I studied several courses in intellectual property and taught copyright law through the edX program, and I did my undergraduate study at UC Berkeley, where I majored in History of Science with a minor in Japanese.

In my free time, I'm an avid gamer, including dice plus paper, cards, and video games.

The common thread that runs through what I do is a love of trying to figure out complex systems, whether those are RPG stat systems, academic theory, or legal issues.

My work

I work primarily to help protect the quality and integrity of the incredible work done on Wikimedia projects. My main focus is on the legal issues surrounding content placed on Wikimedia projects. In addition, I work on a wide range of other legal issues with the whole Wikimedia legal team.

Disclaimer: I work for or provide services to the Wikimedia Foundation, and this is the account I try to use for edits or statements I make in that role. However, the Foundation does not vet all my activity, so edits, statements, or other contributions made by this account may not reflect the views of the Foundation. The legal team can only represent the Wikimedia Foundation on legal matters, so we are unable to give legal advice to others, including community members, editors, or contributors. Communications with members of the legal team are not consultations and do not create any confidential relationship.
