Christel Steigenberger

Christel Steigenberger is an administrator, social activist, and community organizer. A native German, she started her journey as a volunteer in 2014 on the German language Wikipedia, where she served as a volunteer administrator from 2015–2018. She attended her first Wikimania in 2016 in Esino Lario, Italy, and became deeply fascinated by the diversity and potential of the international Wikimedia movement community. Christel has also worked at the Wikimedia Foundation in several community-facing roles, in both Trust and Safety and Community Development.

In 2023, Christel was granted administrator rights on Wikimedia Commons, where much of her volunteer work is now focused. She is also part of FemNetz to advance gender equity on German Wikipedia.

Christel earned her Diploma in Social Work from Hochschule München. She returned to this field in 2024, and now works as a Social Pedagogue supporting persons with Mental Health issues. She joined the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees in December 2024.
